Defenseless Wizards
Defenseless Wizards

It didn’t take a genius to figure out what the Washington Wizards needed to do to take that next step this season.
They qualified for the playoffs a year ago and fell to Cleveland in an excruciatingly close six-game series. And if they improved their defense, they could contend in the balanced Eastern Conference.
So much for that.
The Wizards have actually deteriorated in that department, which is why they have opened the season 6-10 overall and 0-8 on the road. Washington and the Los Angeles Clippers are the only NBA teams to have not enjoyed a victory away from home.
Statistics sometimes lie, but those of the Wizards scream out their defensive ineptitude. They have surrendered more points (102.9 per game) than any NBA team averaging under 100. Teams have shot a league-best .398 percent from 3-point range.
